BODY-MIND CENTERING®

BMC® is an integrated and embodied approach to movement, the body and consciousness. Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen since the ‘70s, it is an experiential study that uses movement, conscious touch, voice and mind in the exploration of anatomical, physiological and psychophysical principles, and of the sensory-motor developmental processes.

The material includes all body systems, breathing and vocalization, senses and perception, the art of hands-on touch and movement analysis. Some specific aspects make this approach unique: the fact that each of the body systems can be personally embodied and integrated; the fundamental groundwork of developmental repatterning; and the use of a body-based language to describe movement and body-mind relationships.

The study of Body-Mind Centering® is therefore a creative process in which the material is explored in the light of self-discovery and a sense of openness. It has an almost unlimited number of areas of application. Among those currently most practiced: education, movement, dance, yoga, bodywork, somatic studies, rehabilitation, psychotherapy, child development, school education, music, voice, art, meditation, martial arts, athletics and other disciplines involving the mind-body.
